eatwalk Co., Ltd
Message from the Leadership
We operate a restaurant where we use carefully selected vegetables.
"I want my customers to eat highly nutritious vegetables and be in high spirits."
"I want to revitalize Japanese industry through modern farming."
With these aspirations, I take particular care to use domestically grown produce, while striving to show the "faces" of the people who grow these vegetables to our customers. Since childhood I have had a strong interest in "food" and used to try out different food all around me. It started from my interest in the vegetables that were grown where I grew up and owing to that, I am now supported by many around me.
Aside from our restaurant business, we also host an event called "sugo-veggie" (super veggie). It’s an event wherein I travel around all over Japan and dig out dormant vegetables and have everyone experience the goodness of vegetables. I host it every three months with the cooperation of the tourism association, JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperative), and the local municipality.
Our strength lies in our staffs’ understanding of this vision of "Eat Walk" and their consequent efforts to achieve it. Everybody looks in the same direction. The closeness of the staff and I is another of our strengths. Nobody calls me the "director." They call me "chef." I listen to their woes and misgivings. This in turn is an important part of our culture.
In the long term, I want to continue strengthen my company, aim to revitalize the foodstuff industry in Japan, and introduce fine produce to as many people as possible, in Japan and overseas. And for future growth, I want a second "Akira Watanabe" to emerge. This person cannot be a duplicate of me; rather, they should be the complete opposite. To this end, I want each of my staff to know their strengths and weaknesses, and actively brush up on their unique qualities.
As its primary brand, Eat Walk operates an Italian restaurant that boasts pasta dishes with abundant vegetables called "AWKitchen," and "Yasai-ya Mei" that serves carefully selected vegetables delivered everyday from our contract farmers. Our uniqueness lies in the fact that all of our brands use abundant vegetables that are directly delivered from our farmers.
"Surpassing the point of expectation," this is the concept we value. We want to continue to be a company that defies our customers’ expectation on a high level of degree.
Our value of selecting domestically grown vegetables, our wish to revitalize the Japanese industry, and our conscious aim to deliver beyond expectation." People may think these are difficult to achieve. But, they are not. The director, Akira Watanabe, always say "head to the farm when you confront a roadblock." What this means is to not over-think, but to express what you see as you see at the farm, indeed, a simple message.
The triggering factor behind our joining create restaurants group was the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake. Eat Walk operates with the wish to revitalize the Japanese industry, but in the wake of such an event, we pondered about the necessary capability to actively execute our mission. The answer was to tug a partnership with create restaurants holdings inc. that is deeply familiar with domestic as well as overseas expansion.
With the launch of "AWKitchen" in Jakarta in June 2014, I wish to open restaurants that realize our vision even more so than now, in both Japan and abroad.
